VICTORIAN MPs KICKING GOALS WITH SPECIAL SOCCER SCHOOL
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams took to the soccer field in a friendship match between the Doveton Special Soccer School and some representatives of the Victorian Labor government, including Luke Donellan MP, Shaun Leane MP, Jackson Taylor MP, Matt Fregon MP as well former Federal Member for Bruce, Alan Griffin.
The MP’s side took part in a lively match at Soccer5s in Dandenong South and went up against the Doveton side in a fun but tiring tussle.
Ms Williams together with the School’s Founder and Director, Juan Carlos Loyola OAM, organised the match as a celebration to coincide with the Doveton Special Soccer School’s trip to China and as a way to raise awareness of the school’s valuable work.
The Doveton Special Soccer School gives opportunities to intellectually disabled children and adults across Victoria to play soccer, develop skills and make new friends. The School has been run tirelessly by Mr Loyola for over 25 years with the assistance of volunteers, parents and community support.
“The School is a credit to our local community. It ensures that people of all abilities have an opportunity to engage in physical activity, and benefit from the social rewards of playing team sport”, Ms Williams said.
The match ended 5-4 in favour of the DSSS, with both teams enjoying some pizzas and formal presentation following the match.
