FUNDING TO SUPPORT A SAFER DANDENONG

Dandenong will benefit from $24,879.53 in grants as part of the latest round of Community Safety Fund (CSF) grants.

The grants provide up to $10,000 in funding to councils and not-for-profit groups, for projects that help prevent crime and support people to feel safer and more engaged in their communities.

Minister for Police, Lisa Neville, said the Victorian Government has allocated $719,673 for 110 projects across Victoria through the 2017–18 round of CSF grants.

Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, welcomed the funding for three projects in Dandenong, which includes $10,000 for a Lighting Project at Haverstock Hill Close Reserve. The City of Casey will undertake the project to install new solar lighting at Haverstock Hill Close Reserve in Endeavour Hills to prevent vandalism and drug use, and increase perceptions of safety.

Other local projects that received funding include:

  • Kidds Road Reserve Safety Upgrade – The City of Casey will receive $5,376 to install lighting in Kidds Road Reserve, Doveton to prevent anti-social behaviour and improve perceptions of safety.
  • Hemmings Park Upgrade Lighting – The City of Greater Dandenong will receive $9,503 to install security lighting in Hemmings Park, Dandenong to reduce anti-social and criminal behaviour in the area and increase safety perceptions in the park and surrounds at night.

CSF grants are part of the Victorian Government’s $19.4 million investment in the Community Crime Prevention Program.

Since July 2015, the government has provided more than $1.6 million in CSF grants to help support local crime prevention projects across Victoria.
