MORE HOMELESSNESS SUPPORT FOR DANDENONG

Launch Housing and Neami are set to receive more than $3.2 million in funding to help those experiencing homelessness in Dandenong.

Announcing the funding today, Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, said the homelessness service providers would establish a supportive housing and assertive outreach team to offer personalised assistance – as well as roll out the new modular homes program to help some of the region’s most vulnerable people.

Under the Victorian Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Plan released in January this year, $17 million was allocated to establish assertive outreach and supportive housing teams, as well as 20 new modular homes in areas of high need across the state.

After a competitive tender process, seven successful service providers across Victoria have now been chosen to roll out the initiatives over two years.

The assertive outreach team will actively seek out and engage with people experiencing homelessness, while Launch Housing’s supportive housing team will help to tackle chronic homelessness in the area by delivering individual support to vulnerable people once they are housed.

Neami will set up the modular homes program in the area which provides a support network and pathway for people sleeping rough to access permanent and stable housing as quickly as possible.

The Andrews Labor Government has made a record investment of $1 billion in additional homeless and housing support, including Victoria’s $45 million Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Plan.
