DANDENONG COMMUNITY TO ‘PLAY ON’ AT NEW SPORT COURT
Dandenong’s temporary Pop-Up Park has found a permanent home thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government.
Labor Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, has announced the new multipurpose court will open by the end of the year, utilising a vacant site on the corner of Cadle and George Streets, Dandenong.
The new park for Dandenong’s futsal players, basketballers and netballers has been designed by local firm, Playce, following consultation with community stakeholders.
There will be a public drop-in session held from 4:30pm to 6.00pm on Friday 17 August at the Greater Dandenong City Offices on Lonsdale Street which will give locals the chance to preview the new park design and ask questions about the new park.
Development Victoria will deliver the park as part of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative. The City of Greater Dandenong will be responsible for the ongoing management and maintenance of the park.
The Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative is a $290 million project, initiated by the then Labor Government in 2006. The 15 to 20-year project is expected to attract more than $1.2 billion in private sector investment, while creating 5,000 jobs and enhancing Dandenong’s appeal as a great place to live, work and visit.
