HELPING DANDENONG GRASSROOTS SPORTS CLUBS GROW
The Andrews Labor Government is giving grassroots sports clubs in Dandenong the support they need to grow and help more people than ever play the sports they love.
Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams, today announced two local sporting clubs in Dandenong will receive funding as part of the $526,000 Sporting Club Grants Program.
Grassroots sports clubs are the heart and soul of Dandenong. They bring people together and create happier, healthier and safer communities, while developing the next generation of elite champions.
Our Sporting Club Grants Program is removing barriers and supporting people of all ages and abilities to participate in grassroots sports and realise their sporting dreams.
Clubs in Dandenong will receive grants for new uniforms and equipment, which is especially important for the record number of women and girls signing up to play.
In addition, grants are provided to expand the skills of coaches and officials and initiatives that strengthen the operations and sustainability of sporting clubs thrive into the future.
Successful clubs winning grants in Dandenong include:
- Black Rhinos Young African Men’s Basketball Team – $5500 for uniforms, equipment and training
- Dandenong City Soccer Club – $855 for uniforms and equipment
The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of our commitment to make sport more accessible and inclusive, increase local participation, stimulate local economies, and build sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities.
We are also delivering on the $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund that is upgrading tired grounds and ageing pavilions, and building female-friendly change rooms.
And last year’s state budget delivered $22 million for the Better Indoors Stadium Fund and a further $8 million to continue the popular Country Football Netball Program.
The next round of the Sporting Club Grants Program opens on 19 June 2017. For more information visit www.sport.vic.gov.au
